Under the moonlit beach of the Caribbean island of Tobago, models took to the poolside runway with fabric flowing in the breeze. The wonderfully designed, colorful creations were part of Claudia Pegus at a stylish chic resort and island couture collection. The audience were enthralled at the all-inclusive fashion show called the ”Tobago Fashion Coda” at the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort as part of a prelude show to the start of the Tobago Jazz Festival.

Being part of a presentation gives Claudia the opportunity to go wild with her creativity, allowing her the ability to bring the piece to life as opposed to simply hanging on a rack. She often shares the story behind the pieces on display to her runway models, ensuring they know how to present it.

Hot from her Trinidad Carnival designs which showcased shiny metallic tights, leather and vinyl shorts and not forgetting unique sequinned shorts. She went straight to the launch of the Claudia Pegus Designs' Bridal collections in March, then on to the Tobago Fashion Coda. There’s no hanging around for this busy designer who enjoys an early start to her day engaging in exercise or yoga to jumpstart her creativity.

From humble beginnings in Trinidad, Claudia has reached out not only to Caribbean shores but extended her collections across the globe. Born in Trinidad, she left to learn traditional tailoring in Spain and settled in Bavaria, Germany where she met her husband. Today, her work has been shown locally, regionally and internationally at major fashion shows, upscale boutiques and celebrity client list.

When at home in Trinidad, she is kept busy at her shop, where she has her atelier (design studio). Here, alongside her staff, she meets the needs of clients, developing the creative process to produce her signature couture clothing. She also works on career apparel designing outfits for financial institutes, the Family Court and private companies.

In May 2013, Claudia’s designs will be gracing the runway of ‘Hot Couture’ a fashion show put on by the St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival. Here she will be revealing her ‘Romancing the Stone’, collection which features flowing designs for her affluent clientele making the most of cotton, silk, exhibiting her trademark detailed and intricately embellished creations.

Then it’s back to Tobago for a 3-day event called “Tobago Fashion Week” which has been officially launched and named “Cazak, Frock & Suspenders” which promises to be a dandy inspired look.

Next for Claudia is the Caribbean Fashion Week hosted in Jamaica from June the 6th – 10th.  The event receives worldwide recognition with its international performers, supermodels and famed after parties. Designers from afar a field as Africa, Europe, USA and Australia will present their collections alongside the best of the Caribbean. Claudia believes that one of the best things about Caribbean Fashion Week is that the regional designers compete against their international counterparts. This allows for improvement, innovation and creative juices to get flowing.

Come July, Claudia will make her debut at “The Collection Moda” held in Jamaica which is in its second year. It is a far more intimate show featuring just 6 designers with an emphasis on the business of fashion, marketing, selling and grabbing the attention of potential customer’s attention. Claudia is billed as a “Master Couturier Caribbean designer, renowned for her excellence in embroidery and silk designs.”

The fashion season in the Caribbean occurs in rapid succession and Claudia is at the forefront of this season’s shows. For many, she is not just the quintessential Caribbean designer but the Master Couturier Caribbean designer.
