South African designer David Tlale launched his brand five years ago, since then he has gained a reputation as a trend setter, earning awards in SA. In 2007 he took his designs to the runway of Paris Fashion Week, and continued to gain international recognition. In 2009 he joined other designers at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week as part of the ARISE collective. He returned to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with an intimate presentation that provided a personal experience with the collection.

Tlale presented a consistent and diverse collection that included short skirts paired with sheer embroidered tops. In addition to the bright yellow gowns,he also presented salmon toned gowns and separates augmented with intricate detailing. For this collection he incorporated chiffon, silk, and some interesting tone variation. The beautifully embroidered caftans and pants were among some of the stand out pieces. The elegantly executed bright yellow gowns with dramatic plunging necklines showed off his talents for working interesting elements into his designs. He effectively fused elements of different cultures into his designs, this is especially true when he compliments his gowns with the "Gele" (head dress.) It was a masterful fusion of African influences. For the men he kept the color theme consistent with a bright yellow shirt complemented by a finely tailored jackets with, embroidered pants. It was a very engaging and well executed presentation, the detailing was superb. Tlale's global recognition is well deserved and he continues to innovate season after season.
