Caribbean Model: Janeisha John

By :- Janette Brin

Name: Janeisha John

Birthplace: New Jersey, Hometown: St. Croix USVI

Describe your style in 5 words: Island-Edgy, Colorful, Chic, Bold, Versatile

What item in your closet are you loving the most right now:

Well, lately I’ve been searching for vintage items to add to my wardrobe, and while doing some thrifting I stumbled along a beautiful handcrafted, vintage, camel brown leather vest that is to die for! The detailing is amazing on the vest and I have been able to pair it with practically everything from a flowing, chiffon printed or solid skirt/dress, and even a more rugged look with distressed cutoff jeans,  t-shirt/tank, and some cowboy boots or booties.

What fashion item are you craving right now:

Two words Guiseppe Zanotti! I am in love with their black and gold snake heels. They are sexy, chic yet still classy.  Aside from that I am looking forward to adding water colors, some bright neon items, and pastels to my wardrobe this spring and summer.

Beauty item you can't live without:

I must say that I didn’t realize that I couldn’t live without this item until I almost lost it the other day lol. It’s my “Moulin Rouge” Make Up Forever Red lipstick. I swear it’s the PERFECT red lipstick, not too bright and not too dark, and now that I’ve cut my hair short it’s the perfect color for a bolder look but not too dramatic.

Most memorable model moment:

Of course it would have to be strutting my stuff on the Miss Universe and Miss America stage!! Not only did I get to hit the grandest stages in pageantry, I also got a chance to represent my home, the US Virgin Islands.  That opportunity in itself opened many doors for me, allowing me to work with International and Caribbean designers in NYC like Karen De Freitas of Soka, Sandra Baquero, Sohung Designs, Roger Gary, Jamal Drummond of Ahmadz just to name a few.

Most memorable Host/VJ moment:

Wow it’s hard to choose one but if I had to pick, it would have to be as a Red Carpet Correspondent for NY Fashion Week for Mychael Knight of Project Runway and his Lost World Collection, where I got to interview the likes of actress/TV host Sherri Shepherd, Trina, Olivia, BBWLA Gloria and Laura Govan, Nicki Minaj’s hair stylist Terrance Davidson, and many more celebrities in attendance. It was a star studded event and NYFW is the ultimate fashion week, so I was humbled to be given the opportunity to work the red carpet while incorporating my love for fashion and television.

What you love the most about what you do?

I absolutely love that my work IS my play. Not many people have the luxury of doing what they love to do for a living, so for that I am extremely grateful, and humbled for such an opportunity. Also working in television as a host/VJ, and model as well, has granted me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Many of who have inspired me to keep striving for more in life, and to never be afraid to be different and to take risks.
