Mercedes - Benz Fashion Week Spring 2013

By :- admin

So another season of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has come and gone in New York. There was certainly a buzz around Lincoln Center. There is always the usual debate about how this season compares to the last etc. while Posh didn't make it to many of the offsite shows there was plenty of excitement at the tents. The ARISE collection was in town with five of Africa's most talented designers presenting the African Icons show. Ozwald Boateng, Tiffany Amber, Gavin Rajah, Maki Oh, and Tsemaye Binitie, presented their incredible tailored designs within a full multi media experience. In and around Lincoln Center there was plenty of African style about as the fans of African influenced fashion came out to flaunt there style and view the collections. In addition to the ARISE collective, south African designer David Tlale was also a part of this seasons MBFW presenting his own collection on the Sept. 9.

Among the week's highlights was of course Tracy Reese. With all the buzz created by The First Lady Michelle Obama wearing her design, everybody seemed to want in. Every bit of seating and standing space was occupied. the media pit seemed to overflow with photographers. the yellow and orange trend on the runway was also evident in Tracy's collection. she also included some neutrals that added some contrast to the warmer colors.

Carolina Herrera's stylishly elegant designs continue to deliver season after season, we loved the airy feel of the embroidered and striped orange dresses and skirts. Diane von Furstenberg rocked the runway with some vibrantly colored, embellished, and boldly printedjumpsuites. he also sent down some nice color blocked separates. Project Runway presented it's 10th Season finale show, which was another show lots of people wanted to attend.  In some ways it seemed a bit of a reunion as past contestants and winners mingled before and after the show. We spotted Korto Momolu, and Anya Ayoung Chee winner of season nine in the front row.

We managed to see many of our favorite designers, and of course there are always those we can't get to. Among some of the others we did make it to are; Custo Barcelona, Monique LHuillier, Naeem Khan, Badgely Mischka, Ana Sui, Zang Toi, and Herve Legere.  The fashion tide has long since moved on but the smallest glint of anticipation can be fellt even now, and the next season  is but a few months away ... stay Posh people.
