Nicholas K teamed up with up with Christopher Kunz for the NYFW  FW2017 season. The result was a show that was inspired by the 90's hip hop era in NYC. The collection was a translation of the young street influenced culture that found it's way into mainstream culture. The collection managed to reflect these elements as well as the influences of other sub-cultures around at the time. To make sure the gritty, edgy aesthetic hit home Nicholas K. provided a live musical experience via rapper Latasha Alcindor, and the dope beats of Dj  Rob Swift. In what was definitely a unique runway show as Latasha rapped live while crossing the runway at times before the looks came down the runway.

Models were styled with slick back hair, that gave some of the models a "shaved side" haircut look. The look was also complemented by nose rings, and hoop earrings with stylized animal tooth motifs. Along with beige, muted tones, red, silver, and gold were prominent in the collection.  There were also layered grey toned separates in black beige, and gold that were perfect for the fall season in New York. Draped light cotton, and wool fabrics all worked together. The red separates, and coats popped on the runway beautifully.  Thigh high black vinyl, and metallic gold boots complemented metallic gold shearling overcoats topped of with gold metallic berets. He also worked in some light fabrics in trench coat pieces. Golld, and silver elements were seen throughout the collection from garments to footwear.

The show rocked, the models walked the runway looking strong, and edgy. It was just the right combination of grit and glam to take you back to the 90's but also make you feel right at home in the 21st century. The designers felt that the current political climate is very reminiscent of some of the tumultuous issues society faced in that era. Increasingly these days many designers are finding ways to speak to issues through their craft. This is a superb collection as always. Nicholas K, is always a great way to start New York Fashion Week.
