Style Fashion Week: EMILIO SOSA

Emilio Sosa is originally from Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic. His great grandfather was from St. Thomas, U.S.V.I, but migrated to the Dominican Republic where Emilio's Grandfather was born. Emilio has been working as a costume designer for years. He realized his interest in design at an early age. Sosa has a lot  of experience in the world of fashion and has  won several awards. Among these awards are :  TDF/Irene Sharaff Young Master Award in 2006.

Emilio took to the world stage as a contestant on the seventh season of the Project Runway. This season marked the return of the show to New York.  set in New York. Emilio joined the cast of 16 designers vying for the top prize and the chance to launch their careers in the fashion industry. He won several challenges throughout the competition, and finished in second place at the end of the season. Since the show ended, he has continued to promote esosa designs, a line he co-created with his brothers. In 2012, Emilio joined the cast of Project Runway All Stars season two.

In February, 2015 Sosa presented a collection as part of the collective of designers showing at Style Fashion Week. This season he returned once again to to show his present his collection at Gotham Hall during NYFW. We asked him about the inspiration for his collection this season. "The collection is called Urban Safari, it's about New York. It's about color, it's about print. It's about a strong woman, and it's about just being who you are." From backstage hair and make up to designers, and models Caribbeans continue to make an impact on the fashion industry, big up esosa!
