Born and raised in South Korea, Son Jung Wan, In 1989, Son opened a small shop across the street from Galleria Department Store to house and sell her collection of stylish wears. Seeing how successful her store was, Galleria offered her a shop in shop only a year later. In 1993 Son earned the “Golden Needle Award” from the Korea Fashion Editor Association and in 2005, was named “Designer of the Year” by Seoul Metropolitan. The collections designed by Son Jung Wan are made from high quality fabrics. Son captures the dual nature of women and how they like to dress. Today, Son Jung Wan is one of Korea’s most successful designers with over  $50 million dollars in sales in 2011. Her designs are sold at boutiques located across the USA including New York City, Palm Beach and the DC Metro area as well as in department stores in South Korea.

Son Jung Wan has consistently presented collections during NYFW FW2017. We decided that this was one of the collections we wanted to check out this season. The retro influence was big this season. For Son Jung Wan it was a trip back to the Eighties. For SonJung Wan's  FW2017 collection featured  oversized coats, brilliant vivid color, and bit of  velvet as well. The velvet was a great complement to grey pants and long overcoat with vertical stripes. Shimmering metallic gold pants and tops with subtle geometric lined embellishments. Other interesting pairings of burgundy velvet, and red patent leather gave the audience plenty of ideas. Also a stand out was the orange and black fur coat. Lots of colorful and bold pieces in this collection, retro feel with modern flair, all around a really nice collection.
