The premiere of the much-anticipated movie, ‘Bob Marley: One Love’  in Jamaica on January 23, 2024.

The red carpet was rolled out, the atmosphere was electric, and the who’s who of the music industry gathered to pay tribute to the legendary Bob Marley. Let’s dive into the details of this momentous event!

The premiere occurred in the heart of Kingston, Jamaica, at Carib 5 cinema in Cross Roads, Kingston. The venue was transformed into a reggae haven, with vibrant colors, live music, and an undeniable sense of unity. What better day for the biopic to air in cinemas than Valentine’s Day in 2024?

Some notable guests who graced the red carpet included the obvious: Bob’s family, carrying on their father’s legacy. With his infectious energy, Ziggy Marley spoke about the importance of preserving his father’s memory through this documentary.

Ziggy quipped,“It helps to spread the message more in a different medium, so we are very happy we are able to push it to another level,” he said, adding that “me and Neville Garrick were there to make sure they don’t mess it up, we were really involved.”

In a Kingsley Fashion

The biopic’s lead star, Kingsley Ben-Adir, the film’s director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, and Paramount Pictures president and chief executive officer Brian Robbins were just a few among the star-studded guest list.

Kingsley, who faced opposing reactions from the locals on his casting as the legendary Bob Marley, said that being on the island for the premiere was more than special and that, “This movie was made for Jamaica, with Bob’s family and all of the cast, so premiering it here is a very special moment.”

Kingsley wore a bespoke three-piece suit by Gucci designed by Sabato De Sarno. The suit, made from black wool and featuring distinctive Round Interlocking G button details, was perfectly complemented by his choice of Gucci horsebit loafers in black leather.

The movie ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ was filmed last year in the United Kingdom and Jamaica, capturing scenes in Trench Town, the National Stadium, and the iconic Bob Marley Museum. Alongside Kingsley as Marley, the main cast included  Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley and James Norton as Chris Blackwell.

The Jamaican talent in the cast featured reggae singers Naomi Cowan and Hector Lewis, along with musician and actor Sheldon Shepherd. Naomi Cowan was styled by Ivy Coco Maurice in a stunning lime green sleeveless gown by Avaro Figlio and Swarovski jewelry.

For the premiere, Lashana, who plays Rita Marley, graced the red carpet in a stunning emerald green Maison Rabih Kayrouz dress featuring a daring plunging neckline and puffed sleeves.

A thigh-high slit accentuated the gown and exuded glamour with intricate golden threads woven into the fabric. The award-winning actress rounded off her ensemble with glitzy jewelry from Bulgari. Missing from the red carpet was co-star Sheldon Shepherd, who could not make it to the premiere as he was expecting a child at the time.

The plot centers around a pivotal moment in Marley’s life and focuses on Marley’s remarkable career and delves into events leading up to an assassination attempt in 1976.. The historic One Love concert happened later in the same year and is remembered for Bob Marley uniting the hands of the late Prime Minister Michael Manley and Opposition Leader Edward Seaga.

Royal Fashion Takes Center Stage

The couple that stole the show was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who unexpectedly attended the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Jamaica. The Duchess of Sussex combined a black bodysuit with a Carolina Herrera taffeta maxi skirt. Markle completed her look with a Jimmy Choo box clutch gold accessories, including a Cartier Love bangle and Jennifer Meyer statement earrings. She chose a subtle hairstyle and makeup, light blush, and nude lipstick to complete her regal look.

Prince Harry opted for a navy suit layered over a white shirt, leaving the collar casually unbuttoned, showcasing a pendant necklace. He finished the look with a pair of black leather Oxfords to complement his attire. The pair also took pictures alongside Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Brian Robbins, the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, and his wife Tracy James.

The royal couple, a long-time enthusiast of Bob Marley’s music and his love and unity message, were thrilled to be part of the movie premiere. They received an invitation from the Robbins family, who are long-time friends. Let’s wait for the movie and see the legendary Bob Marley’s life story in living color!
