My journey as the founder of Caribbean POSH began during a pivotal time—my final year of undergraduate studies, while navigating the complexities of being a single mother. Despite the naysayers who doubted my choice of niche, claiming it would never work, I built a successful career in marketing, developed my brand, and put my son through school. Each closed door I encountered only fueled my resolve; adversity became the catalyst for my dreams rather than a barrier. I recognized that my vision for Caribbean POSH  extended far beyond my personal aspirations.

Setting ambitious goals became my guiding light, igniting a passion within me to dream even bigger. Each milestone achieved not only marked my progress but also served as a beacon of hope for others who face similar trials. Caribbean POSH emerged as a powerful platform for empowerment, creativity, and connection, aimed at uplifting individuals within the Caribbean community and beyond.

I firmly believe that when we come together as women with shared values and ambitions, we can transform our dreams into a collective reality. So I am forever thankful for the amazing posh girls I have met throughout my journey. Together, we can break barriers and achieve greatness, inspiring one another along the way. Let us continue to push boundaries and explore new horizons, united in our strength and resilience, knowing that our combined efforts can create a lasting impact.

As we bid farewell to 2024, it’s time for Caribbean women to reflect on their journeys and prepare to unleash their potential in the year ahead. Whether you faced setbacks, lost opportunities, or grappled with self-doubt, it’s important to remember that every ending is a new beginning. The road to success may seem uncertain, but with determination and a positive mindset, the future is promising.

1. Set Intentional Goals

Take time to reflect on your aspirations for the coming year. Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with your career ambitions. An example of an intentional goal could be “I will increase my professional network by attending at least two industry -related events each month for the next six months”.

2. Cultivate a Growth Mindset

Embrace the idea that you can develop your abilities through dedication and hard work. A growth mindset encourages you to view challenges as opportunities for learning rather than obstacles. I like to set aside time each week to reflect  on challenges that I faced and try to figure out how to do better. Feedback from trusted family and friends is so valuable. The key is not being defensive or discouraged by any negative feedback.

3. Prioritize Self-Care

As you embark on your journey towards your career dreams, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Prioritizing physical and mental well-being will enhance your performance and creativity. This can be as simple as taking walks or spending extra time on daily skincare routine.

4. Connect with Your Community

Surround yourself with supportive individuals who inspire and uplift you. Networking with other Caribbean women can foster collaboration and provide valuable insights. I am excited to share that Caribbean POSH will be hosting networking events for ladies in the Virgin Islands, along with online options for our sisters across the region. These gatherings are perfect opportunities to connect and grow together. In this fast moving world, I would add that its important to never miss an opportunity for cultural preservation and celebration of our unique identity.
