From the vibrant shores of Trinidad and Tobago, where food is more than sustenance and every spice tells a story, one woman has taken her passion for culinary artistry and transformed it into a global mission. Handmade by Jeanette Company, founded by Trinidadian chef and entrepreneur Jeanette, is not just another food brand. It is a Caribbean-born, wellness-driven enterprise that weaves heritage, sustainability, and innovation into every jar, blend, and bite. For the past five years in the food and beverage industry, Jeanette has cultivated a brand that bridges the gap between traditional flavors and modern health trends, making it a beacon of inspiration for entrepreneurs across the region.
A Brand Rooted in Heritage and Health
The story of Handmade by Jeanette begins with a love for food, culture, and people. From fiery hot sauces infused with tropical fruits to functional granolas that pack both nutrition and nostalgia, every product reflects Jeanette’s vision of nourishing the body while protecting the planet.
“Handmade by Jeanette Company is a Caribbean-born, wellness-driven food brand that transforms traditional flavors into innovative, nutrient-dense products,” she explains. “What makes the brand unique is its blend of Caribbean heritage with modern health trends—delivering delicious, responsibly sourced foods that nourish the body while protecting the planet.”
Her products are more than food—they are vessels of memory, innovation, and care. They embody the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago while answering the growing global demand for clean, sustainable nutrition.
Inspiration in Uncertain Times
Jeanette’s entrepreneurial journey was born in one of the most unpredictable moments in recent history—the COVID-19 pandemic. While the world came to a halt, Jeanette found herself reflecting on the gaps in the food system, particularly the lack of healthier, more sustainable Caribbean products. “I was inspired to create Handmade by Jeanette Company from a need for healthier, more sustainable Caribbean foods,” she recalls. “The COVID-19 pandemic gave me the time and space to bring this vision to life.” Drawing on her background as a chef and her travels around the world, she partnered with small-holder farmers, created products that utilized imperfect produce to reduce food waste, and reimagined traditional recipes into nutrient-dense offerings. What began as an idea during lockdown has since grown into a brand with international reach, proving that adversity can spark innovation when met with vision and determination.
The Joy of Entrepreneurship
For Jeanette, entrepreneurship is not only about building a business but about creating a life filled with meaning, freedom, and possibility. “What I love most about being an entrepreneur and running my own agri-food brand is the freedom to create products that reflect my values—wellness, sustainability, and Caribbean heritage,” she shares. This freedom has allowed her to shape a company in her own image, one that celebrates culture while tackling urgent global issues like food waste and food insecurity. At the same time, being her own boss enables her to indulge her other passion—traveling. Whether she’s at a market in Paris or on a beach in St. Lucia, Jeanette is constantly inspired, bringing new flavors and ideas back into her business. For her, the entrepreneurial lifestyle is about balance: working tirelessly to innovate while carving out space to live, explore, and connect with the world.
Impact Beyond the Plate
Handmade by Jeanette Company is not simply about creating delicious foods—it is about transforming communities. “Through Handmade by Jeanette Company, I hope to create a lasting impact on the Caribbean community by promoting healthier eating, supporting small-holder farmers, and reducing food waste,” she explains. Her ambitions go beyond her own products. With her food bank initiative, Jeanette is working toward strengthening food security across the region by making nutrient-dense foods more accessible to those who need them most. At the same time, by incorporating imperfect foods into her products, she is addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time: food waste. The result is a business model that feeds people while also protecting the environment, proving that profitability and responsibility can go hand in hand.

Passion Made Tangible
Jeanette’s love for food is the beating heart of Handmade by Jeanette. As a Trinidadian, food has always been a source of joy, comfort, and connection, and she infuses that passion into every product she creates. “My love for food—cooking it, selecting the freshest ingredients, and savoring every bite—fuels everything I do,” she reflects. “This brand is a reflection of my heart and soul, bringing the joy, comfort, and connection that food has always given me to others.” Every hot sauce, every spice blend, and every granola mix is crafted with intention, telling a story that connects past to present, heritage to health. In this way, Handmade by Jeanette is not just a business—it is an extension of Jeanette’s very identity, a mirror of what she values most deeply.
Rising Through Challenges
The road to success has been anything but easy. “Building Handmade by Jeanette Company came with countless challenges—so many I don’t even know where to begin! Lol,” she admits candidly. Launching during a pandemic meant uncertainty at every turn, followed by the global recession that added new layers of difficulty. As a woman and a newcomer in the food and beverage industry, Jeanette faced skepticism and barriers that required her to work even harder to prove her vision. Yet these challenges became stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. Each obstacle taught her how to adapt, how to innovate, and how to hold firm to her mission even when the odds were stacked against her.
Lessons in Resilience
Now, with five years of experience as a business owner, Jeanette reflects on the lessons that shaped her journey. “I learned that resilience and adaptability are everything,” she says. “I learned the power of patience, the importance of surrounding myself with the right people, and that setbacks can be opportunities. Most importantly, I learned to trust my vision, follow my passion, and stay committed to creating food that nourishes people and community.” These insights are not just lessons for her own growth, but guideposts for other aspiring entrepreneurs across the Caribbean who are navigating their own journeys of risk, resilience, and reward.
A Legacy of Achievements
From her early days at the Arima Farmers Market to showcasing on the world stage at SIAL Paris, Jeanette’s accomplishments tell a story of steady, inspiring growth. “I started Handmade by Jeanette Company at the Arima Farmers Market, turning a small idea into a brand that now exports to St. Lucia, the U.S., and is set to expand to Europe and other Caribbean countries,” she shares proudly. Her participation in SIAL Paris under the Caribbean Absolutely banner was a turning point, allowing her to highlight Caribbean flavors at one of the largest international food exhibitions. Beyond her business, Jeanette takes pride in giving back through mentorship with YBTT, where she helps guide the next generation of entrepreneurs, sharing the lessons she has learned along the way.
The Future for Caribbean Women Entrepreneurs
Jeanette’s journey is not just her own—it is part of a wider story about Caribbean women forging paths in entrepreneurship.
“I see a bright future for entrepreneurship among Caribbean women, but there is still room to grow,” she affirms.
She believes that access to funding, mentorship, and networks must improve so that women can confidently transform their ideas into thriving ventures. She also dreams of a cultural shift, where collaboration is celebrated over competition, and women see each other as allies rather than rivals. “With these improvements, Caribbean women can thrive, innovate, and lead businesses that make a real impact locally and globally,” she says, her voice filled with conviction.
Filling the Gap in the Market
Handmade by Jeanette also addresses a critical gap in the Caribbean market: the lack of locally made, nutrient-dense foods that prioritize wellness and sustainability. “Many traditional products are either highly processed or imported, with limited options that focus on wellness and sustainability,” Jeanette explains. By offering alternatives like granolas, spice blends, and hot sauces crafted in Trinidad, she is not only reducing reliance on imports but also elevating Caribbean agriculture and culinary traditions. Her products are a celebration of local ingredients, reimagined for the modern consumer, and they serve as proof that healthy choices do not have to come at the cost of flavor.
Collaboration and Sisterhood
Jeanette knows that her success is amplified by the collective strength of other women. As a proud member of SheTrades Caribbean, she collaborates with fellow entrepreneurs through events like TIC and Carifesta. “We co-host pop-ups, cross-promote products, and share insights,” she says. “By working together, we strengthen our individual brands and showcase the power and innovation of Caribbean women entrepreneurs to a wider regional and global audience.” This spirit of sisterhood not only advances her brand but also reinforces her belief in the power of women-led businesses to reshape the Caribbean economy.
Voices of the People
Her customers’ testimonials are the ultimate validation of her mission. One recounts meeting Jeanette during carnival celebrations: “I met a customer from the US while playing mas, who became a fan of Handmade by Jeanette Company’s products.” Another, in the UK, discovered her hot sauces in St. Lucia and immediately sought out more. “They loved the coconut and pineapple hot sauce so much that they reached out for a top-up,” Jeanette recalls. Stories like these remind her that her products are more than just food—they are cultural ambassadors, carrying the flavors of Trinidad and Tobago into kitchens and hearts around the world.
More Than a Brand, A Movement
Today, Handmade by Jeanette Company stands as more than a food brand—it is a story of resilience, passion, and purpose. It is proof that one woman’s vision, grounded in her Trinidadian identity and fueled by her culinary expertise, can grow into a movement that empowers farmers, reduces waste, improves nutrition, and amplifies Caribbean flavors on the global stage. “Each product tells a story of passion, heritage, and care,” Jeanette says. And with every jar of hot sauce and every pouch of granola, she continues to nourish not only bodies but also communities—building a legacy that celebrates the Caribbean spirit while paving the way for future generations of women entrepreneurs.
