Recently, we had the unique opportunity to catch up with the talented actor, via an unexpected mode of communication – a quick chat over WhatsApp. Despite his busy schedule, Lincoln graciously took the time to engage in a conversation, providing us with a glimpse into his life and career…

CP: Well the obvious would be, what was the experience like for you?

HL: A great experience! Extremely professional, safe, a very comfortable and magical environment filled with creatives who were all on the same page…. Wonderful.

CP: What is it really, like working on a music video set vs the various types of acting you’ve been doing over the years

HL: This set was run very similarly to that of a television show set. The major difference being that it was centered around music.  The opening of the video set the stage for the storyline and introduced the Characters. The critics have been invited to listen to Ariana Grande’s new music after years of being away….

CP: Can you tell us a bit about the concept of the video?

HL: Sorry, I jumped the gun above lol. Yes, so The Critics have been invited to listen and experience Ariana Grande’s new Music and Performance. She and dancers do an amazing performance, we love it, fall in love and exit super excited .

CP: Music videos don’t always have speaking roles. What goes on behind the scenes to land a speaking role in something like this ?

HL: This is actually my first SAG ( Screen Actors Guild) job since the strike is over. The audition came in and my Agent said, that I may want to consider doing this because although it’s a Music Video it’s a SAG Project, they’re paying really well and I must remember that I haven’t had anything put towards my Pension & Health in 6 months. The latter is what really got me. We were not told who the Artist was, only that she is very high profiled and popular (hugely successful), and The Casting Director who is major usually doesn’t do Music Videos. The SAG strike was no joke…. You gotta make a minimum to maintain your health insurance….A bit of background, music videos in the past have generally been Non-Union and have notoriously been known to run way overtime with poor working conditions and can be kind of a nightmare. I auditioned very much like how I would for a TV show and film. Speaking and action directions from the Casting Director.

CP: You shared some behind the scenes of yourself ‘working out’. Is there some back story to what was going on there ?

HL: When you watch the music video, you will see that there is a part when Ariana Grande walks into the group and pulls two of the Critics up and they join in the final dance routine. My Critic Partner Heather Lang is one of those Critics so she was about to do a warm up before filming the scene so I said I would join her even though I was just dancing in my seat. In that video you can see the rest of the cast joining in or poking fun while we did this amazing warmup. I live vicariously through dancers.

CP: For aspiring actors what advice would you give on building a career in acting?

HL: I wish there was a playbook for such a thing. There are so many ups and downs and there is no blueprint. People have so many different experiences. All I can say is enjoy, no, love the craft and remember, they call it show business for a reason, it’s a business.
