In the vibrant tapestry of Caribbean leadership, few names shine as brightly as Keithlin Caroo-Afrifa, MBE. A tireless advocate for gender equity, sustainable agriculture, and rural development, Keithlin is redefining what empowerment looks like for women in the Caribbean — and she’s just getting started.
As the Founder and Executive Director of Helen’s Daughters, a dynamic non-profit based in Saint Lucia, Keithlin has created powerful pathways for rural women to transform their lives. Through training, advocacy, and access to markets, Helen’s Daughters now spans across three Caribbean nations, touching the lives of thousands. With a focus on sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, and agribusiness development, Keithlin’s leadership has turned farming into not just a livelihood, but a dignified and respected career option for women across the region.
Keithlin’s journey is rooted deeply in grassroots organizing, movement-building, and policy advocacy. Her innovative spirit — blending on-the-ground action with strategic change — has earned her recognition from prestigious platforms like BBC, National Geographic, and Forbes. One of her proudest achievements includes the establishment of the HD Ag-cademy, an alternative certification program recently approved in Saint Lucia to complement government-led agricultural practices, giving women farmers even more accessible tools for success.
Yet her impact doesn’t stop at the farm gates. Keithlin’s influence reaches global boardrooms and international policy spaces. As a Goodwill Ambassador for the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and one of only two grantee partners selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Equality Fund, she carries with her the powerful voice of Caribbean rural women, ensuring they are seen, heard, and prioritized. Remarkably, she is the only Caribbean national to currently hold a board seat at the Equality Fund — a true testament to her groundbreaking leadership.
In 2021, Keithlin was recognized with the honor of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her extraordinary contributions to agriculture and the advancement of rural women. This accolade is not just a personal achievement but a beacon for what’s possible when passion meets purpose.
Recognizing her outstanding achievements and visionary leadership, we at Caribbean POSH are proud to have selected Keithlin Caroo-Afrifa as one of our 2025 Caribbean POSH ICON Woman Award Honorees. We commend Mrs. Caroo-Afrifa for her incredible work in championing food security, amplifying the voices of women farmers, and empowering Caribbean rural women. Her commitment embodies the very spirit of what it means to be a POSH ICON — forward-thinking, resilient, and deeply impactful.
