The first week of May is not only just about celebrating the spring season as it heads into summer but also the illustrious Met Gala. In 2024, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gave the annual fundraiser a sartorial theme spearheaded by the legendary Anna Wintour and four of the biggest stars on the planet: singer Bad Bunny, actors Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and the undefeated champion of the red carpet, Zendaya. The challenge posed to everyone in attendance came under the theme, “The Garden of Time”, in honor of the Institute’s new exhibit, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’.

Without question the most stylish night of the year, international stars descended in time for the exhibition keen to share their unique take on the decree and prove their fashion mettle. The exhibition, based on J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, gave many celebrities their first opportunity to shine under the spotlight and others to cement their status as fashion icons. Caribbean POSH highlights the stars with Caribbean roots who crushed the red carpet in unforgettable style and grade them based on the creativity they brought to the year’s theme.

Few women take the Met Gala as seriously as Cardi B, always a vision at the event dripping in grandeur and glamour. 2024 was no exception as the Grammy winner pulled out all the stops for the occasion! Collaborating with Chinese designer Windowsen, Cardi donned a custom-made gown that had been meticulously crafted over the course of two months. As the hip hop star graced the red carpet – which this year was minted green to emphasize the garden theme – her larger-than-life dress commanded attention, sprawling across the entire landing with sheer opulence. It may have been the biggest dress to ever enter the building!

In a display reminiscent of Ursula from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Cardi’s voluminous black ensemble enveloped her, creating a scene of breathtaking magnitude. Accompanied by her longtime stylist, Kollin Carter, plus nine attendants, Cardi – the daughter of a Trinidadian mother and Dominican father – was the belle of the ball!

To complement her striking gown, Cardi adorned herself with a matching beehive-style headpiece, adding stature to an already commanding presence. Bedecked in the most resplendent green jewels, she harmonized flawlessly with the ethereal backdrop of the carpet.

This appearance marks Cardi B’s fifth outing at the Met Gala following her impressive showcase of four outfits at the 2023 Met Gala and its subsequent afterparty. She reiterated her commitment to creating an unforgettable moment and seizing the spotlight. With this latest effort, Cardi proved that once again she understood the assignment!
