This initiative has garnered impressive support, particularly from the Sandals Foundation, which has committed to funding the first 1,000 copies of “Future Makers.” Heidi Clarke, Executive Director of the Sandals Foundation, highlighted the pivotal role of the creative arts in fostering vibrant communities. “By supporting Future Makers, we’re equipping the next generation to embrace creativity and find fulfilling opportunities,” she said, reinforcing the foundation’s dedication to nurturing the talents of Caribbean youth.

Joel Nomdarkham’s vision for “Future Makers” extends beyond inspiration; he aims to reshape education policy to better support creative learning. “This book is designed to expose students, from as young as age 8, to creative career options so they can look beyond traditional paths,” he reflects. His commitment to guiding young minds towards vibrant futures is a testament to the power of creativity in education.

Inclusivity is a cornerstone of this initiative, with the book featuring multimedia content and sign language interpretation, ensuring that children of all abilities can engage with its resources. The next phase of the rollout aims to incorporate braille, making “Future Makers” a truly accessible tool for every aspiring creative.

Latoya West-Blackwood, founder of iMagiNation Books and the book’s publisher, echoed the importance of this initiative in her remarks. “When we think about education, inclusivity must be at the forefront,” she stated, emphasizing that “Future Makers” is paving the way for all children to thrive in creative spaces.

The launch was just the beginning of a weeklong celebration of creativity, featuring events like a Creative Talk Session at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and a Women’s Talk that showcased the incredible contributions women are making in the media and creative industries. The Reading Road Trip at Ocho Rios Primary School kicked off a yearlong initiative to bring this essential resource to nine more schools across the Caribbean, ensuring that the message of creativity reaches every corner of the region.

“Future Makers” is more than just a book; it’s a movement that embodies the spirit of creativity and empowerment in the Caribbean. So, grab your copy, dive into the world of possibilities, and start exploring the exciting creative careers that await you. Congratulations to Joel Nomdarkham, Yvette Noel-Schure, the Sandals Foundation, and everyone involved in this inspiring initiative.
